Community Center, Spring 2022, Third Year
The design driver for the community center is Clinton Hill’s topography, historically noted as the tallest elevation in Brooklyn, providing views to Manhattan. Due to it’s proximity to Manhattan, and the idea that Clinton Hill’s elevation promoted health and well being, people flocked to the area. My goal in this project was to preserve this history, and strengthen the importance of elevation in Clinton Hill. The design places the most influential/public areas of the program at the highest elevation, to create different levels of hierarchy. Private and less impactful programmatic elements are located underground. The Clinton Hill Community Center successfully brings residents of Clinton Hill together, while preserving the historical integrity of the area.
