Garden In The City, Spring 2023, Fourth Year
In 2020, 34th Avenue was closed down during certain times of the day as part of NYC’s Open Streets Initiative. The street closure encouraged residents to get out of their homes during this extremely difficult time. This was very well received, and the open street eventually became permanent, and renamed as Paseo Park. As a result of the research conducted while visiting the site, our goal was to implement different programmatic experiences. Through these programs, residents would have the opportunity to have an impact on the street, as well as experience different activities that are beneficial to them. In order to achieve these programs, 7 block conditions were created, each having a specific function. Playing into these functions, each block features modules that respond to the needs of the space. In addition to their programmatic function, the blocks are then assigned colors and materials based on the experience they are intended to achieve. (In coordination with Angelina Badolato)
